Manifesto
For decades, essential service businesses have grown by adding people.
Software gave professionals better tools, but left the economics intact: accounting, law, and IT and insurance brokerage firms still tied their capacity to the hours their people could work.
With AI, firms can complete work end to end and serve more clients without proportional increases in headcount. We believe this creates the foundation for essential service businesses with the scale and margins of software companies.
At Operational Intelligence, we acquire and operate these businesses, starting with accounting.
We build domain-specific AI systems to run and scale each department, taking responsibility for both the technology and the services we deliver.
Over time, we intend to automate all work except where regulation requires human involvement or where people remain essential to trusted client relationships.
As we advance, we will give professionals more room to exercise the judgment they have spent years developing and more time to understand the clients who depend on them.
We will measure our progress by the quality of our services, the hours we give back to the people delivering them, and unlocking at least 5x higher margins for operating these firms.
